Another exciting day in the fifth grade! Today students who have been showing Eagle Pride were rewarded with a Halloween movie this morning. This afternoon we heard from Mrs. Lana Baker, who spoke to us about government from her personal experiences of working at the capital. Then we celebrated Eagle Pride with our assembly. Congratulations Emma, Grant and Samantha who won awards at the ceremony! We ended our day with an incredible Fall Party, put together by our wonderful room parents.
In Science we finished our plant and animal unit this week with our test on Wednesday. NEXT WEEK: Our weather unit begins! We’ll be gathering data about the weather and learning about the various instruments meteorologists use.
In Math we had GREAT test results for our algebra unit. I am so pleased with the whole class. We began our next unit by checking out multiples of 10, 100, and 1000 and using those to help us estimate products. We also have been finding factors and multiples. NEXT WEEK: We’ll be multiplying larger numbers, exploring greatest common factor, and working with least common multiples.
Writing: This week we owned our nouns! We studied the different forms of possessive nouns and how to spell them. We also looked at ways to creatively edit our papers to make them more descriptive. Next week: Parents, we will need your help! Students will be writing a HOW TO paper based on a favorite family recipe. Please write down a recipe and have your student bring it to school by Wednesday November 3. We will also be learning about using commas in a direct series.
In Reading this week we started learning about the U.S. Constitution, while continuing to make connections and inferences. We will keep working on with these strategies, as well as monitor our understanding as we continue to learn why we have the Constitution and its Bill of Rights.
