The kids got to experience quite a few changes today....I love being able to start new units and new activities when we are fresh in the new year!
1. We welcomed our new student teacher, Miss Katie Pauley, from Columbia College. She is an Ashland citizen and excited to be back at Southern Boone! She will be teaching in our building until mid March.
2. When the kids came in today they were surprised to find quite a few desks missing. What a world of difference it made to take out 6 desks and replace them with seats at the computers and Punky Bluester. Each "pod" of three kids has become their own continent, a perfect connection to another change...
3. ...Social Studies is back! This week our learning objectives include identifying and labeling all 7 continents, all oceans, and the equator. Next week we will learn about all the explorers who made the brave voyages to these once unknown lands.
4. In writing we have transitioned to our persuasive unit. Learning objectives include learning how to compose a persuasive piece with the audience in mind. (Warning: "Convincing parents to increase allowance" has already been mentioned as a possible topic...be prepared for very convincing arguments!)
I'm so happy to have everyone back and ready for a great 2011!
Happy New Year!
Miss Stokes
