STOKES NOTES September 17, 2010
-This week we earned our 40 Principal Pride stars! Next Thursday, Mrs. Fatherley will join us for a party! Great job, class!
-We finished The Man Who Loved Clowns and started the Transall Saga for read aloud.
-As you can see, these kids have been busy this week. I started a new contest for Word Study Quizzes- the class with the most A+'s by Thanksgiving will win a party.
-On Monday we started the moldy bread experiment...and when we got to school this morning, we found mold! The kids are having fun making observations.
Here's what's happening in all our classes:
WRITING – Students worked on identifying subjects and predicates in sentences. As they revised their writing, they checked to make sure they used complete sentences with subjects and predicates.
READING – We continued to read our books about the Revolutionary War and meet in small groups for discussion. We made connections while reading our own personal selections.
SCIENCE – This week started the Moldy Bread Experiment and reviewed for our Getting Ready for Science test. NEXT WEEK: We will begin looking at plant classification.
MATH – We worked hard on rounding whole numbers and decimals this week. Students worked on creating number lines to show where a decimal number would be.
