Stokes Notes September 3, 2010

What a full week! We continue to rack up the Principal Pride Stars having collected 27 so far. In keeping with the PBS program, the students and I have continued to review safety in all areas of the school.

What's happening in class:

WRITING: This week we began our Writer’s Workshop, learning about revising our writing. We also continued with our weekly list of word study.

READING: Students began by reading selections about the Revolutionary War. Then they used comprehension strategies to help make connections about the characters involved in their selection.

SCIENCE: This week we created picture books based on Inquiry Skills we use in the lab. We also learned about fair testing and also began exploring variables and controls in experiments.

MATH: We spent extra time getting a good handle on decimal place value. We learned word form and expanded form, as well as how to compare and order decimals. We also spent some time working with equivalent decimals.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

9-6 (Mon) – Labor Day - No School
9-21 (Tue) – Picture Day
10-22 (Fri) – No School
10-26 (Tue) – Picture Retakes

Have a SUPER FANTASTIC WONDERFUL Labor Day weekend! See ya back at school on Tuesday!
Miss Stokes :)
